Church: Beyond the Walls
At Hershey Free, we believe a disciple of Jesus is someone who lives with Jesus, loves like Jesus, and leads others to do the same. We invite you to join God on-mission as you serve within and outside the church and show and share the good news of Jesus.
One upcoming way to join us on-mission is with Church: Beyond the Walls. On Sunday, May 3, we will go into our communities and neighborhoods to share the love of Jesus with others. It’s a great opportunity to connect with people in our local area and within Hershey Free by serving together. Meet at the church at 8:30 AM for a brief time of prayer, singing, and instructions before heading off to your job site. When your project is finished, we encourage you to celebrate with your team. Maybe go out for dinner. There will not be a re-gathering at the church in the evening, but we look forward to celebrating your stories during the services on Sunday, May 10.
There will be no regular Sunday services on this day.
The first step is gathering potential projects. We encourage you to think about your co-workers or neighbors who aren’t connected to a church and could use some assistance. Maybe you volunteer at a local organization that would benefit from a group of people participating in a specific project. In the past, projects have included yard work, painting, baking cookies, writing cards, construction, sewing, and more!
Second, sign up for a specific project. We need people willing to do yard work, maintenance projects, bake cookies, and more. There are projects for groups, families, or individuals to join together and serve. The most important part of these projects is connecting with people. If you are on-site with a local family, get to know their story.
Unique Project Opportunities
Collections | We have two projects asking for donations before CBTW. One group is collecting dental supplies to make dental kits for Hope Within. Items needed are individually packaged toothbrushes for adults and children, standard or travel-sized toothpaste, children’s flavored toothpaste, dental floss, and travel-size mouthwash. Another group is collecting baby wipes for military family packages. Donated items can be dropped off at the Collection Corner, by the large map in the blue lobby.
UNTO | We are partnering with a local organization, UNTO, to walk for clean water. Sign up to walk a mile carrying a 5-gallon bucket of water and raise sponsorship for your walk. A sponsorship link will be sent to you after you join the project.
